I know, right? And they always show up and seem to post the exact same comments as before. So much anger over an anime and its fans. It's priceless.

Makes me wonder if an anime only fan killed their dog or something. Tbh, I think they're just upset that AoT is super popular now .

Probably, some manga-first fans get hilariously elitist about it.

Is that so? I'm so glad that this comm is the only place I'm exposed to the AoT fandom.

How elitist does it get? Like, are there people who can read Japanese, import the manga and/or read the raw scans just so they can stick their nose up at English only readers?

I'm not too involved with the AoT fandom (dropped when the author changed the ending; I'm not big on long running series), but as a general anime/manga thing it's kind of common, especially when it explodes in popularity.

And all of the above really. Super popular stuff (like Naruto and AOT) gets often translated before it's officially released in Japan, so there isn't much time for raw readers to get elitist about it. There's sometimes translation wank, which gets interesting because most the people arguing don't even speak Japanese and are going off the few that can. There's a probably a little elitism among imported versus translated copies, because imported supports the author more, but that's more of a collector issue than general fan issue because piracy is still pretty rampant.

Did he really say he changed the ending? I'm not super into anime/manga anymore and even when I was I stayed the fuck away from the fandoms so I didn't know how common this was.

How does the stuff get translated before it gets officially released in Japan? Early shipments of the magazine and someone who gets them scans them before it is put on the shelf? And wow, all of that sounds super ridiculous.

From what I read, he originally planned for an everybody dies ending and switched it, but even if that wasn't the case the giant popularity boost from the anime will be keeping AoT around longer than planned. (And don't blame you at all. Anime/manga fandoms, especially the major hangouts, can get to be a special brand of crazy.)

And yep, that's exactly how it happens.

Tbh, I'd be surprised if he killed any of them off either way. There's so much plot and popularity armor. For a series with so much drama about people dying, it's just the nobodies that seem to die.

Sure it would be nice to discuss things and fangirl with people in anime/manga fandoms, but it's too much of a hassle. So much drama and bullshit to deal with.

It is? I always wondered about that. Thanks!
