I've never seen anybody say they disliked comments in general, but I have seen people get angry when somebody left concrit, even if politely stated (of course, sometimes the reviewers could be asses about it, too).

I've also seen plenty of whining about "This was great!" type comments, because apparently it doesn't count as a comment unless you describe what was great, quote your favorite lines in the fic, and offer to have the writer's internet babies.

Exactly.

I reviewed often.

Then I had a writer rip me up one side and down the other for having the nerve to write a simple, "Great chapter! Can't wait for the next update."

Now I only review those that I know don't mind simplicity.
