tbh, the entire first paragraph describing the OPs amazing popularity made me a bit skeptical. Why do we need to know that OP is a gift to every fandom they touch?

Some people are naturally good at writing. I don't see anything arrogant about the OP stating what people have said about their works. I can see where some butthurt BNF might think a fandom nobody writing a better fic than theirs is stealing their spotlight.

Also social anxiety sucks.

"Pretty decent" and "pretty popular" seems like rather understated bragging. Also, social anxiety doesn't mean you are incapable of acknowledging anything good that you do. For example, my social anxiety means I'm nervous as hell when I have to go outside and interact with people even if it's something simple like going to the bank. But I make bitchin' chocolate chip cookies. See? They're not mutually exclusive concepts.

Look, if those two statements are objectively true, then why is it soooooo horrrrrrrrible that OP mentioned it? Can you not handle people acknowledging their own accomplishments?

If it's true and you're merely reporting what others have said, is it bragging really? I tend to think not. Also the part about reviews is an objective measurement. You can look at numbers of reviews over time, so it's not necessarily an exaggeration. I dunno. You seem to have a huge problem with people acknowledging their achievements and I get it. Lots of people do. But it's not bragging to admit that maybe you did a good job at something, nonny.

I hope that you straighten this misconception out. Not for the OP of the secret, but for you.

So nobody is allowed to admit they're good at something? The OP said they're pretty decent, they didn't crow about being better than everyone else.

Am I bragging if I say I'm a pretty good singer? What if I said people tell me I have a lovely voice, and I gather a good crowd when I pick up the karaoke microphone on Friday nights?

There's nothing wrong with being confident about something you're good at.

Confidence is saying "I'm pretty good at this!"

Arrogance is saying "I'm better at this than any of you!"

This is why people have trouble selling themselves and taking compliments and accepting their accomplishments: because people like you get all worked up when someone doesn't downplay their skills and act the right kind of humble.

The OP's "brag" works within the context of the secret, since otherwise, it wouldn't make sense for the BNF to get so upset. And also, no, social anxiety does not prevent someone from being able to recognize the things that they're good at. It makes them anxious in social situations.
