Maybe it's just because I read the manga more than I watched the anime as a kid, but I kinda like the style of the new series. I think that the more muted colors fits the feel of the story more.

Ok how about everything is too fucking bright if neon doesn't work for you? Everyone looks like vampires from the Twilight movies only now they're wearing super bright clothes on top of their super bright skin.

Do you...see things...in different ways? The "bright" ones are the old series. The ones with the more muted colors are the new.

I guess I do too. The colors are the left are solid but not as bright. The ones on the left are kinda muted, but they are bright. If that makes sense.

You're confusing brightness with saturation. Technically brightness means paleness of colors.

Ugh, Crystal looks so washed out, imo. And the hair colours are so pale and... same-y.

Seriously, Usagi's little brother looks like a Jadeite (or however his name's spelled) clone...

The colors in those gifset aren't actually accurate to either. GIF makers tend to up the saturation of the old series, and it looks like they downed it in the case of crystal.

I agree. My library had the entire series for instant checkout whereas I had to wait months and months and months for the same plot to progress in the anime, so I was always manga all the way.

My only real complaint at the moment is the CGI transformation sequence, and it's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

As long as Venus gets her space sword, I will be a happy camper.

It took me some time to get used to SMC's new style. But I kinda like it better than the old. Probably just because the 90s style is very dated (as it should be). It does remind me of the manga. But the shading bothers me. It's very prominent and bold for a style that looks more flowy and "watercolor-like."
