Not necessarily fandom itself, but fans...

I get that people don't like movies. But when they complain and say it's crap to make others not go, it annoys me. Then again, I get more annoyed by people who let themselves be swayed by outside opinions instead of seeing for themselves. Just because Bob doesn't like it doesn't mean Jake won't like it, too.

I went through it with Godzilla and again with Transformers: Age of Extinction. I liked the movies, but I see people deciding not to go based on others saying it sucked. I won't say they were brilliant Oscar worthy movies, but hell they're enjoyable and pretty to look at.

I could see an argument against making judgments without seeing something for yourself, but there is just *so* much media available that people have to filter it somehow. Why not by word of mouth?

That rather depends.

If a friend of mine says that I will not like a movie, then they know me well enough and I know them enough, that I can trust their judgement.

If certain, but not all, critics say this movie is a huge waste of money, followed by a list of reasons, well most of those guys have been spot on before. That is the reason people read them, they watch the crap so we don't have to.

If the promo material tells a lot of really disapointing stuff and says it like it is a good thing, looking at you (no)Godzilla '14, then its a fairly easy call.

If people who have watched are coming out saying it is shit, looking at you Into Darkness, or boring and dull, back to Godzilla again, or just plain creepy and not in the good way, then its a fair judgement to take from that general buzz.

I get you want us all to watch because you are one of those "you'll love it if you see it" guys, but the world don't work that way. People are able to make judgements based on other people's reactions. In fact that is something that people should be doing more of.
