Re: So what about authors...
(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 02:31 am (UTC)(link)I remember freaking out in the old dA days because sometimes leaving a comment (or responding with a thank you to a comment) would lead to a chain of "thank you" "thank YOU" "Thank YOU...." etc. Maybe with a little more too it than that, but it was like chatting with someone and not knowing at what point you're allowed to do something else.
That and while it's nice to say "thank you" to compliments when you hear them, it looks awkward if you see a page of:
-"Nice job!"
-"Thank you."
-"Cool!"
-"Thank you."
etc, repeat 50+ times for every two word comment on your piece.
Seriously, it's like everyone expects something from everyone else. What, even.
Re: So what about authors...
I read and appreciate every nice comment, at the end of chaptered fics I often add a quick note saying thank you to all those who commented along the way/since the last chapter, and I'm pretty sure I even mention it in my profile... I just don't want to (artificially?) inflate the comment count by directly replying to each one.
