The death sentence?

I wouldn't mind if they were allowed to put off the death sentence if they opted to go in for testing.

Key word, opted.

Still a bit weak on actual consent. I'd imagine a lot of people would agree to just about anything if the alternative was "or death". Its a pretty slippery slope there. Especially when you consider just how many people on Death Row are actually innocent and got screwed by the system.

How can it real consent if it is a choice between to "do this or die"?

Consent for any type of prisoner is going to iffy because there is always the issue that being a part of experiments (or more importantly refusing to a part of an experiment) will influence their record which in turn will impact when/if they are released or even things like where they will spend their time (less restrictive prison, prison that is closer to family).

Criminals on death row are overwealmingly male and this would limit the usefulness of any test results unless you were only testing drugs meant to be used souly on men (and what do you do for drugs meant to be used on women?) You're also looking at sample sizes that are not statistically viable (outside of maybe China) even with a righ rate of volunteerism.
