Yeah. And unfortunately, there is a very ugly history of scientists doing exactly that - unconsented research on both prisoners and poor black people. There's a reason that IRB's and informed consent are a thing.

Holy shit, this. I find it horrifying half of the people in this thread seem to forget this. Experimentation on prisoners did and does happen - generally in places where not much ois cared for human rights.

And not to go for reductio at Hitlerum...but seriously, this is actually something Nazi's did.

this is gonna sound terrible, but at least they has something they were actually trying to find out.

The Nazis (particularly Josef Mangele) was all, "Let's chop this twin up and see if the other feels it." "Let's inject ink into this one's eye." "Lets put these in a freezer!" "LET'S SO TWINS TOGETHER TO SEE IF WE CAN MAKE A CONJOINED ONE!" "Let's try this terrible biological agent and see what happens."

That is very, very true. But on another level, as an American (and a scientist) I'm really ashamed of some of the things that have been done here historically.

I think the worst part was it continued after penicillin. That puts it into full blown evil tier, they specifically SAW what this disease was doing to these specific individuals.

Twin experimentation is sort of what creeps me out the most. It's not the most horrifying thing they ever did, but it disturbs me on a deep level.
