(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)So what? People make snap judgements all the time. People judge other people by their appearence all the time. We can't help it, it's being human.
The real problem is when we let our first impression form our *only* impression of a person. Yeah, I might think a pokemon tattoo is something someone might regret later on, but it's not going to stop me either being polite to that person or trying to get to know them. Depending on the situation.
And of course, the biggest problem of all is when we let our judgements of individuals color our view of an entire race/religion/ethncity.
But just having a fleeting opinion on whether someone will regret a tattoo or not? Is NOT a problem.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)QUIT JUDGING
JUDGING IS MEAN AND MAKES PEOPLE FEEL BAD ABOUT THEMSELVES
NO ONE MUST EVER JUDGE
EVER
IT'S NOBODY'S BUSINESS WHAT I DO WITH MY BODY
I SHOULD EXIST IN A VOID
NO ONE SHOULD SEE ME OR FORM IMPRESSIONS OF ME BASED ON MY APPEARANCE
OR ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT ME
NO ONE SHOULD KNOW WHO I AM
THAT'S JUDGEMENTAL

I saw a lot of it in this thread, and shouldn't have concentrated all my annoyance into one response. And of course you are right that sharing your opinion on tattoos isn't the same as berating a specific person who got one.

You obviously spent a lot of thought and emotion on the fact that somebody else got a tattoo that you don't like. And it irks you so much that you felt the need to pass judgment. Don't fool yourself or others.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 10:19 am (UTC)(link)Personally, I hate that line of thinking. What does "growing up" actually mean to these people? You go out clubbing, drinking, and generally not doing anything that includes "childish" fun, I guess? It's like they don't comprehend that they have people over the age of 5 who make Sesame Street and others over the age of 15 who make video games. You can't make things like that if you lose the sense of what made you happy growing up.
Here's a nice little life tip for everyone: you don't hit a magical age and start hating things you liked doing as a kid. This includes video games, reading, and even building things out of Lego. Growing up doesn't have to include dropping everything in favour of "adult" entertainment.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)I mean look at pokemon- I've seen just as many people at college play it as I have in elementary, but if you so much as brought it up in conversation in 7th grade, the whole class'll laugh at you like you just said teletubbies is a very thought-provoking show.
Re: D!A
growing out of it is one thing but telling someone you hope they grow up eventually is like ??? why cant they be grown as people and still like what they like? i agree with you.
