I've noticed he does that little cough (like he's clearing his throat twice) and quite a bit of gesticulating, in several roles of his. I didn't pay much attention to him before Sherlock, that's why most of the comparisons I see are from John Watson, Bilbo and Lester.

Lester's stuttering and awkwardness was rather Bilbo-ish, but it was his particular cough (the hem hem) that reminded me immediately of John.
