I agree some things are definitely for TV only (not putting a guard on Morello while she parks at a hospital and just leafs through magazines for hours? The cooking prep seems kind of elaborate for prison, I mean, I would have thought that it would be like school cafeteria food - fish sticks, tater tots, mystery meat hamburgers, wilted lettuce, overly mushy pasta with mush marinara, instead they're like getting decent produce and they all seem to make stuff by hand regularly - like when they were mixing stuff and Daya commented about how it was like being at home making tamales with the family for Christmas. I mean, they should get decent produce, but you know, I still would have thought it would be cafeteria grade blah. I went to a poor school district, it shows, I know.)

I would think it would be crap food as well. Admittedly, this comes from my bias: my boyfriend went to jail for a day and talked about how horrid the food was (barely cooked bacon and eggs, really awful mystery meat, etc.) Though, that was jail in a little town and that probably doesn't go along the same lines as a prison.

Depends on the prison. Hell some jails are so famous for their meals people will get arrested in those town just for thanksgiving.

Agreed. Prisons, by & large, receive low-grade meats/produce -- worse than the poorest schools get.

As someone who has spent time in a women's prison, this whole show seems exaggerated and totally fictional, whether it's based on someone's real "memoir" or not. I can't watch it without groaning about all the inaccuracies or conflicts with my own experience. So I don't watch it. It's stupid.
