Then I'll admit something even more embarrassing: I was convinced that the novel had come to me in the way the Manual is supposed to, because I was babysitting for a family (the only time I ever sat for this family, btw), the kids had just gone to bed, and it was just sort of lying there, but a bit out of the way-- like, it shouldn't have drawn my attention, but it did.

Y'know, that happened to me, actually - I was in this children's bookstore in my grandmother's town that I'd never set foot in before or since. And it wasn't like it was a big book, either, compared with some YA books, but I just saw it and it... it interested me. Drew me, maybe. So I picked it up, read the back, bought it...

...And I've been screwed ever since. Totally and completely.
