(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)Isn't Four the most universally beloved of the classic Doctors?

I personaliy don't like Four, so I included him. No idea about the general consensus on him among DW fans. His scarf is nice tho.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 12:03 am (UTC)(link)As for Four, he was the Doctor for like a million years, including a lot of the most-beloved eras of the show (IE the Hinchcliffe era). He's certainly the most iconic of the classic doctors.

He's the most easily recognized, that's for curtain. I don't dislike him because of his popularity, to be original, or something. He just seems scary to me. And crazy. And not very nice. I watched one or two eps and went "nope". Despite all his snapping Three is nicer, imo.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 12:30 am (UTC)(link)No idea about the consensus either (is there one???? LOLOLOL) but Four is my Doctor, fwiw. I blame PBS in Washington state. XD

(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 04:44 am (UTC)(link)A lot -most?- Who fans admit that their Doctor is the very first actor they saw in the role (I admit it's my case, for instance). As the longest Who tenure, he therefore tends to be very highly rated, but I don't think it's an objective rating.
I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that his stories were any better or the actor necessarily better or more suited to the role which resulted in greater love from the fans. I think it's just that he incarnated the Doctor for so long - during years where Doctor Who was an active show I mean.
To illustrate further: 9 is MY Doctor and not just because Eccleston is a great actor, but also because he was the Doctor in the first episodes I watched. It's a bias I have grown aware of. But how many fans who did not see him first agree with me? None that I know of, though it would make an interesting statistical study, IMO.
