Single people being miserable - but not for the reasons they are IRL. It's true that being single can be very very awkward IRL, but it's less "oh no I don't have a man" and "oh shit, I'm at an office Christmas party, everyone's with their spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend, and they're all talking to me like a cute five year old even though I'm older than them." I'd love to see that. Instead it's "I'm single going to jump off a bridge." (Usually women. If a guy's single, he's just a player. Which is also annoying. There are nice guys - actual nice guys, not "nice" guys.)

But single people being needled by married people about being single is a very common trope? Especially at social gatherings, though usually family ones- think Bridget Jones at the Christmas party.
