I think with me it can depend on my level of investment in the ship. I think typically if I'm really attached to it I won't like seeing either of the two characters paired up with anyone else, but I've also got exceptions to this rule as well so it isn't always clear cut.

Example: I ship the fuck out of Thor/Loki, but Thor/anyone else doesn't bother me in the slightest. However seeing Loki paired up with anyone else? Nope, don't like it.

And then I have Steve/Bucky and Tony/Pepper who I don't like splitting up at all(I can wartime-era OT3 Steve/Peggy/Bucky, but that's as far as it goes).
