Yay! The book had me laughing out loud a lot. The movie is okay but made some changes I didn't like. I think I'll re-read it now.

To be honest, I probably wouldn't have picked it up if not for the Penguin cover, and I am eternally glad I did.

the satire is more obvious in the book I think

Probably. The main thing I remember from the film version is BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN!EVERYONE IS DAMNED!BRIMSTONE AND FIRE!PREACHER!SIR IAN MCKELLAN.
