Re: Tropes you like
Like you have a totally bleak future and everything is dead and broken but you have the characters be kids who have never known anything else, so all of that is just "normal" and all the stuff they're finding is new and cool and bright for them (:o a bug!).
I really, really loved the intro to WALL-E, for example.

One of my favorites is in 20th Century Boys, after some of the time skips - you end up in this dystopian, almost post-apocalyptic world, but many of the characters take it in stride, and there's some kid characters who really just care about watching wrestling - this is all they've ever known.
I think. If I'm remembering correctly. I should really reread that series, it ruled.
