(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)- serial killer psychoanalyzes the detectives
- the documentary episode
And I'll always watch when it's one of these "It's personal"-episodes (a team mate is framed for murder/taken hostage/etc) even if I haven't watched the show in ages.
I also think even the most overused trope becomes 70% more bearable with a little lampshade hanging.

I also like Honor Before Reason, and Militaries are Evil.
I'm sick, I know it.

Found family. Same for this one, only I'll also be bawling my eyes out in joy and relief for the main character(s).
Antagonist reformation. I just love it when they start fighting with the good guys. C: Bonus points for plenty of UST!

Re: Tropes you like
Arranged marriages. Reincarnation. Trapped in an elevator/cave/spaceship/whatever.
Age transformations where an adult character is now in the body of a kid. But NOT vice versa. First one is essentially a supernatural/magical cock block in the vein of Detective Conan. The other's just an excuse to pair up a child with an adult because "hey! they no longer look like a kid, so it should all be okay!" :|

I always loved reading the family trees for the Greek gods and in fantasy books. The weirder it is, the happier it makes me.

I'm corny I know.
Also:
Mal: Well, look at this! Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?
Zoe: Big Damn Heroes, sir!
Mal: Ain't we just.
Re: Tropes you like
Like you have a totally bleak future and everything is dead and broken but you have the characters be kids who have never known anything else, so all of that is just "normal" and all the stuff they're finding is new and cool and bright for them (:o a bug!).
I really, really loved the intro to WALL-E, for example.

Re: Tropes you like
conflict in values VS personal feelings (x-men, les mis, almost any enemy/enemy pairing)
'...talking carefully, as if to a spooked animal'
'like a doe caught in highlight' (I like these 2 phrases)
a character finding their purpose (sga rich in these fics)
secret identity (spiderman for example)
culture clashes and contrast sprinkled with WTF moments
Too many to mention, really.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)Generally, I just have a thing about honour, hidden depths, guile, intelligence, trickery, sacrifice and loyalty. Reliable as clockwork, my favourite characters are the honourable ones, the sneaky ones, and the sneakily honourable ones. I'm also in favour of any and all plots that show these tendencies off.
I also have a thing about trust, characters discovering it, characters struggling with it, characters being betrayed by it, just all the struggles and joys that potentially come from trusting something or someone enough to act on it.

-Childhood friend romance. (Preferably, they were childhood friends, one moves away and they re-unite years later.)/Childhood promises
-Identity porn! Dual identities, double lives, knowing each other in both identities but not knowing it's the other, etc.
-"In it together" (A group of people are put in a situation together. (Whether they are stranded or lost together, or they're all connected by a secret whether it be normal secret, or something like they can all use magic powers, or they all are on a quest together, regardless if they like each other or not.)
