Have you seen the Doctor Who Docudrama 'An Adventure in Space and Time' that details into the origins of the show? Without spoiling too badly, there is a touch of that towards the end of it.

There's also a story in an old Star Trek profic anthology that deals with that trope (I.E., Kirk, Spock, and McCoy end up on the Star Trek set while William Shatner, Nimoy and DeForest Kelly end up on the real Enterprise).
