Weird stuff that is totally normal to the people experiencing it (hence my love of Night Vale). Unrequited love. Unrequited love that is less unrequited than you thought. Characters who are affectionately antagonistic towards each other most of the time turning tender when one of them is sick or otherwise needs comfort. Romances between huge tough guys with secretly kind hearts and emotionally damaged women with cores of steel. Romances between two equally smartassed people. Characters who seem to be the 'only sane man' character but are actually just as nuts as everyone around them, only in a different way.

I like your taste! I don't think there's a one of these I don't find appealing. I don't see it that often in pairings I like, but unrequited love is awesome. (Well, in fic; IRL it's not so much fun.)

Oh yeah, there's a definite "exorcising personal demons" element to my love of that trope.

The best example I can think of off the top of my head is Linda from Better Off Ted. Gus from Psych also has shades of it, but his quirks are more overt.
