How long does it take to recover from a broken leg (tibia)?

Assume a clean break with no broken edges breaking through the skin. Anyone have the medical knowledge?

It takes as long as it takes man. People heal at different rates, some people never fully heal. Anywhere between as little as four/five months up to as much as a year is the regular range.

Addition to above: Where the break was in your leg may be a weak point for a long time after it heals.

This. when I was in middle school a 12-year old friend broke their leg, was in a cast for ... six months? Two weeks after the cast came off they slipped on the patiop and re-broke it. :(

Thanks for the concern, but I didn't actually break my leg, I was just in a situation where I think I almost did, but I was just wondering how long I would have been recovering from it if I had broken it. Thanks for the info though -- sounds a good deal worse than a broken arm.

A shorter time than the femur.

Did you require any hardware? I.e., pins/plates/surgery? No? Straight plaster cast? 6-8 weeks. If there were any complications, your ortho should have told you. Er. You did get an ortho consult when you went to the hospital, right? If you didn't, and you are at all worried, you should get a referral from your GP....

Actually, this is a totally hypothetical question. I think I *almost* broke my leg, and afterwards I was wondering how bad a situation it would have been if I had. But I just have a really badly bruised shin.

In general, removing other health complications and age factors, approximately four to six months. IF proper medical care is given. Much, much longer if the bone isn't set and the limb isn't immobilized correctly.
