The problem with that idea is that one of the central conceits of the entire fictional work is that mutants have it harder than humans. We're essentially being told that this character, who can look like whomever she wishes to whenever she wishes to, suffers more from societal beauty standards than any human woman. Which is both inaccurate and, quite frankly, insulting.

She'd make a better metaphor for the unfair standards pushed on women if she weren't a shapeshifter - if it was a case of be herself and blue and be scorned and potentially attacked, or wear uncomfortable/inconvenient prosthetics/holographic whatsits/whatever.

(Basically, the metaphor would work better if she was Nightcrawler.)
