Anon, write what you enjoy. Who cares if nobody is into the pairing? Maybe someone will come along, get into it after reading your fic and ship it along with you. :)

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Is your fandom a book from the eighties (Maybe early nineties?_

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
If it is. And if it's the pairing I think it is, I am not surprised to find people being vocally against it, but I also will admit to being a fan of it myself, so fuck the haters.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm always a little perplexed when my tension and agnst filled stories are called fluffy, just because they have upbeat or positive endings. But I figure they mean well, so it's not worth getting too fussed about.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoops. That belonged in the other secret about fluff.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate secrets so vague you can't ever figure out what they're about. What's the point?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm now trying to think of every fandom I know that's remotely connected to Babylon or the Tower of Babel. Tokyo Babylon? Babylon 5? Metropolis? The Dark Tower? Good Omens? Any of the shows with strong biblical elements/angels? I feel like there should be a lot more, it's an extremely old and powerful image, but I'm completely blanking. Huh.

...Snow Crash? Does Snow Crash even have a fandom?

At any rate, OP, if you play your cards right, either people who like the same kinds of badwrong as you will start coming out of the woodwork, or you'll get a bunch of people going "Oh God, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did." Granted, you might also get SJWs grandstanding against you on Tumblr because they're looking for something to get mad about, but think of it as being ranted at by an itinerant fundie preacher. :p

I can't figure out if you posted the beginning of the fic and regret it due to backlash, or if you found out before you even started posting it, OP?

To me it sounds like OP hasn't posted any of the fic, but they didn't realize how others in the fandom felt about the pairing. So they were writing this pairing, realized how much people didn't like it, and now don't want to post their fic because they're afraid of backlash. (I assume, anyway.)

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. That.

Relax. It's never as bad as you think it is.

That's a lot of writing to do then never share! Though there's nothing wrong with you keeping it to yourself, if you want to share your fic, you should. Maybe post under an alternate username? No one ever has to know it's 'you' that way, and who knows, maybe there are other people who ship this pairing but are lurking, afraid to mention so lest they be judged. Rarely are you alone in shipping something, so I bet you'd be surprised at the response.

Post it on a sock account and see what happens?

Ooh, ooh, is the fandom The Hitchhiker's Guide? ie Babelfish?

There will be people who will adore your fic, OP, if that pairing is so rare/nonexistent. Post using a sock account, as other have recommended.

I don't want to know which pairing it is, really. But I know what it's like to have other people disgusted at your pairing choices.

Unless you think the other people do have a point, now you've thought about it a bit more - in which case perhaps it's good to keep some things private?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
If it really bothers you, you could orphan the work immediately.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-21 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
I've actually been wondering about this, since I have a fic I wouldn't mind posting but don't want my name attached to it - is there a way so that a fic is actually posted already orphaned? Like, a setting to click as you're getting ready to submit it? Just that a lot of fandoms have feeds of new stuff that gets posted, and I don't want to risk my name getting sent out on a feed.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-21 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
You could make a sock

[personal profile] peablossom 2014-07-20 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it make you happy? Then there are probably other people out that that really ship it too, even if they aren't that vocal about it, who would be thrilled to see a new, porny fic for their rare, unpopular pairing. I find fandom is more fun if you write to the good, and not the negative.

I did something kinda similar if you tilt your head sideways and squint. I got into SGA after two seasons had aired. My flist was full of SGA fans, mostly McSheppers who were super excited when I got into the show finally. So what's the first thing I write? Tons of Elizabeth Weir centric gen and Bates/Kavanagh. My friends were all okaaaay. LOL

Is the fandom Queer as Folk? Because of the Babylon nightclub?

Also, post the fic! Who cares if most people will be into it! You're never the only one who is into anything. Plenty of people would enjoy reading that fic, even if they're not the most vocal fans in the fandom.

And if you're worried about personal backlash, post it using a sock account.

Fuck the haters! You do you!

I'm such a nosy little sot, I need to know the fandom. The suspense is killing me.
