The interview OP is talking about

>And before it aired, the director said it wasn't a gay anime, didn't he? (laugh)
>Director says that they didn't have Masayoshi say they should get married because he was gay, but just because he's the kind of character who can say crazy stuff like that
>And they're together even after that, aren't they?
>Script writer says it's really just like they were before - Goto hasn't really gotten over his heartbreak either, and they aren't really gay for each other or anything

(Anonymous) 2014-07-21 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's why there is official art of them getting married! Because they are totes not gay. No Homo.

Dude, this is a stupid argument. Official art means nothing in anime. Just look at GetBackers-- most homo official art in the world, totally no homo in the show.

I get your point, but I'm not sure if Getbackers is the best example. IIRC, there was plenty of homoerotic subtext in the show itself.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-21 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Subtext, sure, but never anything overt or canon. There's always subtext, that's easy and titillating without actually committing to it. And that's why official art can go so bonanza with the homo overtones; they never ever have to make good on it.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-21 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Alright then, my mistake. Man, I love how the official art for non-BL anime goes crazy with the homoerotic overtonesm especially for series that have little to no subtext at all. And the art is usually so damn outlandish, especially stuff from the nineties.

Get Backers had canon homo though.

Not between Ban and Ginji, who the official art most notably homo'd up, though.

Wedding art is kind of on a whole different level though. I can't think of any series I've seen wedding art for that didn't involve a canon pairing.
