Re: Fandom Confessions!
AYRT
(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)When you edit an original work into a fanfic, it takes WAY more than "search and replace" to make it original. Lots of editing and in some cases reworking some things completely. Maybe less so if it's an AU. But still it takes some work.
Other than that, if people are doing it for fun, people coming in being "HDU you're ripping them off" and stuff is kinda silly. Also people who thing fanfiction automatically makes one a poorer writer? That's kinda stupid.
Re: AYRT
I'm not really sure what I think about search and replacing a fanfic into an original fic. I tend to spend a lot of time disagreeing with people on that without ever really figuring out what I actually agree with.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-21 12:11 am (UTC)(link)In a situation like this, it wouldn't be plagiarism, but it could still be copyright violation. A lot of people confuse the two. Most fanfiction is a violation of copyright, and simply tacking on a disclaimer saying it's not yours and you're not making money off it doesn't make it NOT a copyright violation. It just makes it a copyright violation that's unlikely to be prosecuted.
