lbr here, non-straight leads in shows are so few and far between i don't blame anyone for being mad that the writer refuses to make a character bi when they easily could be and there's original source material to support it.

also, in hollywood, if a writer "hints that it might happen later" that is basically a confirmed "no it's not going to happen but if it gets us ratings we'll keep promising it will".

people get weirdly hung up over people gunning for representation.

it reminds me of people who don't like cosima from orphan black. not everyone has to like her and you're totally allowed to find her story boring, but i'm going to look at you funny if you claim to not understand why she's so popular in fandom.

Honestly, unless he's going to be in a relationship throughout the show, I don't see a reason to keep him completely straight, the motivation is pretty obvious though.
