I was once with a big party celebrating an older relative's birthday at a rather small restaurant and we had to wait two hours after we were seated at the table before the waitress came back and took orders for our drinks. Another couple came in, were seated, ordered and got their food from our waitress before we placed our food orders. Altogether I think we were there for nearly four hours, most of it waiting. Including our table and that couples, there were only four tables filled that night total so there wasn't even the excuse of them being super busy.

On top of that the waitress and two other employees acted all put out like we were a huge hassle from the moment we walked in the door, like we were unexpected even though the reservation had been made a week in advance. Then they charged everyone a two dollar "plating fee" per person to put the birthday cake we bought and brought on plates.

Wow, they sound like assholes. I don't know if I could wait two hours to be seated.

Oh, no, we were seated immediately. We sat there an hour waiting for her to come back and take our drink orders and give us menus.

Jeesh. Half an hour for menus? You can't even read about the food you don't have to keep yourself from being bored!
