Worse Restaruant Experiences?
It came and looked pretty good. However, when I bit into it, the melted cheese shot out of the back and burnt my hand. I panicked because it hurt quite a bit and quickly tried to wipe it off. My sister saw a manager walking by and flagged her down to explain what happened.
The manager was extremely condescending and blase about what happened. She went, 'Awwww,' and said it was, "Part of the cheesy goodness." She actually said that. She said she could get me some burn cream and left.
Our waitress came back around and she told me that, "It [being burnt] happens all the time. But don't worry we have a great first aid kit." And that the first time she ate a Fried Cheese and Bacon burger the cheese exploded in her face and burnt her.
The manager returned after we were almost done eating. She asked me for my information (Name, Phone Number, Age, Address) and gave me a little packet of burn cream. Worst restaurant experience ever.
Anyone here had some terrible experiences? Or hilarious?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-22 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)On top of that the waitress and two other employees acted all put out like we were a huge hassle from the moment we walked in the door, like we were unexpected even though the reservation had been made a week in advance. Then they charged everyone a two dollar "plating fee" per person to put the birthday cake we bought and brought on plates.

My friends and I were traveling down the coast to get to an open house, so we could meet up with some friends. While on the way, we stopped for lunch, not realizing that the town was having a fair/festival/thing, and it was crowded as hell. We poked around for a little bit until we found a place that wasn't crowded (only one other group), and hoped we could get in and out fast.
Nope.
It took half an hour to get our food.
Did I mention that there were only seven customers total in the restaurant?
Also? Even though the people claimed otherwise, the clam chowder did have bacon in it, which was just ~great for my friend who's pescitarian.

My worst one, I think, was the time we took my husband's mom out on Mothers' Day. We, and his sisters, went to Applebees. The restaurant was really busy, of course, but it was still no excuse. Our waiter was generally pretty poor, even considering the crowd. Overly friendly, chatting instead of tending to tables, stuff like that.
When we were done eating, he was bussing a different table. He dropped our bill off, and left the other table's used dishes on our table. It was so gross.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-22 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)I had a bad feeling about going to this place, but my friend and the guy wanted to go, and my other good college friend joined us. The place was empty when we arrived, and there were two employees visible: one behind the bar, one waiter talking to him and watching TV.
The sign said to wait to be seated. We waited for a couple minutes, then finally sat down on our own. After several more minutes, the waiter came over and took our drink orders and gave us menus, with a very silently resentful manner. The guy asked if his manager friend was in the restaurant, and was told "No." He asked if the waiter knew when said friend would be back, and earned another "No." The waiter left. Twenty minutes later, he brought my drink and took our orders.
My iced tea was in a tiny double-shot glass. The other three had just stuck with the normal water we came with.
Our food came out, cool to cold. If anything was done to it like spit or piss, I wasn't aware. I picked at it, that's for sure. No one bothered to refill our drinks, or ask how our food was. The waiter remained monosyllabic the few times he came to our table. The rest of the time, he was talking with the bartender.
We paid the bill and got out of there, only leaving a penny as a tip.
No one else came into the restaurant while we were there. I sincerely hope that place went out of business. I've never been so uncomfortable in a restaurant before, and so obviously unwelcome.

Re: Worse Restaruant Experiences?
I once went to a restaurant that said they were serving "haggis fajitas", and I was intrigued by this combination of mexican food and scottish food, and my friend said it was a good place. So I ordered it. What came out was a lump of haggis wrapped in BATTER. It looked more like something a cheap chippy would throw together for burns night than something that a restaurant would serve. I bit into it, and the haggis was dry and the 'tortilla' was just as blech as cheap fish batter. I don't even remember if it came with salad or any sort of sauce. The waitress came around, asked how the food was, and I explained that this was NOT a FAJITA for many reasons, particularly noting the batter thing... and her reply was an affronted "It's hand made."
Just because it's hand made doesn't mean you get to re-define what it is.

Re: Worse Restaruant Experiences?
My family and another couple went to Ruby Tuesdays on a Sunday night, maybe 6ish. So a little later for a Sunday dinner. Well it was 7 of us so they didn't have a table for all of us, so we sat at two tables across from each other (3 kids at one and the adults at the other, but the kids are all over 21, so not really children)
We order and then they bring at the food all separately. One person even asked them to take the food off because by 7:30 he had still not received his meal. My brother ended up just taking his in a to go box home to eat. The manager did comp our friend's drink but it was just such terrible service. I went online when I got home and complained because I had finished my meal completely (I'm a slow eater) before everyone had even been served. Ruby Tuesdays apologized, thanked us for letting them know and gave me a $25 gift certificate.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 12:04 am (UTC)(link)I had a cringy restaurant experience that didn't really have to do with the place itself, but more the company I was with. I hadn't seen my best friend from high school for a few years and we decided to meet up to have lunch. I had no idea that she'd changed so much. She ordered a salad and talked about it at great length to me. It was some specific salad that other places served and she was talking about how she liked it a certain way. She'd always been a picky eater, so I wasn't too surprised. Then the waitress brings us our food and I don't see anything wrong with her salad. But my friend refuses to eat it. The waitress comes back and I really felt for her. My friend made this big scene about the salad and I was so embarrassed. I tried to tell her to give her some slack since she's not even the one who made it, she just serves it. But my friend wasn't listening and wanted to leave. So, we left to go to another restaurant where she ordered something she'd been eating since we were kids at that same place. I honestly couldn't understand it. A bonus to all that was she'd complain to me about stores she'd gone to and how she chewed out some poor employee who was just trying to do their job. Needless to say, we don't really talk or go out much anymore.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 12:17 am (UTC)(link)I must have managed to clean my hands, because next thing I remember, I was buying a burger there and I don't think I blacked out. The teller gave me a DIET COKE with my burger. I don't drink coke. I said "I didn't order this," but she didn't understand. But she understood me when I ordered (I got the right burger). I pointed at the coke and said "No." I shook my head. Nope. I had to pay for a coke I wouldn't drink.

Re: Worse Restaruant Experiences?
Haven't had too many bad experiences off the top of my head, other than the occasional food poisoning.
One time my mom almost blew up at our waitress for getting her drink order wrong, only for my sister and me to go, "no. you ordered it that way. really."

Also, if enough people complain about that burger, they'll either change it or take it off the menu.

As for mine: I was force fed soup by a person dressed up as a Chef Micky Mouse in Disney Land as a child. That to date is my worst restaurant experience and nothing, not even shoddy service has topped it so far.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 01:54 am (UTC)(link)Not "Sorry, we're out of that." Not "I don't think that's very good". Not even "It's really spicy, are you sure that you want to go with that?" She just said "No, I don't think you'll like that, I really don't think you should order it." And he tried to order it anyway and she actually refused. Just bizarre.

Re: Worse Restaruant Experiences?
(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 01:59 am (UTC)(link)I've had pretty good luck with restaurants, so I guess the worst experience I've ever had isn't that terrible in the grand scheme of things, but anyway: A friend of mine was visiting my BF and me. I've known this person since she was a little girl, and we'd always been very close. So while she's visiting, we decide to try a few new bars. Friend is really, really into cocktails, mixes them herself, has Opinions about how they're made. We hit the first place and Friend orders a martini. Waiter brings one out and she sends it back, complaining that she can see ice in it. A 2nd one appears, and Friend sends it back AGAIN, saying it tastes watery. By this time, BF and I are getting pretty embarrassed by the whole thing, and Friend is irritating every staff person she comes in contact with. The 3rd martini comes out, delivered by the bartender himself, who waits while she tastes it...
... and it's STILL not good enough. The guy looks at her and asks very politely but coldly if she'd like to step behind the bar and watch him make the fourth drink.
And she did just that. BF and I were mortified, took care of the bill while she was gone, tipped crazy good, and got the hell out the moment her 4th martini glass hit the table. We never went back. I sometimes imagine that I'll be on a customers_suck-style website and read the bartender's POV of the story.

I've never had an experience that bad. The most disappointing restaurant experience I've ever had was when our waiter didn't card me when I ordered a sangria on the night of my 21st birthday. That was sad.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 03:08 am (UTC)(link)My friends and I were seated and asked for water and margaritas. The waitress took our food orders as well. Thirty minutes later, no margaritas. We ask the waitress to please bring them down. She apologizes and then disappears for another 20 minutes. We find another employee to get us some margaritas. We're still picking at the chips & salsa they placed on the table nearly an hour ago. Finally, she comes with the margaritas and the food. Turns out one of our orders is wrong, so we try to send it back, but waitress has disappeared again. We manage to send back the order after ten minutes. After another fifteen, the corrected order arrives. By that point, we are nearly done with margaritas, but not to worry. The dinner experience doesn't end there!
While we're having a conversation, a moth decides to join our table. Now, when I say moth, I don't mean your average little bugger, the kind you can just wave away and it'll wander off. I mean SOMETHING BIG ENOUGH TO WRESTLE WITH YOUR HAND. I'm not sure if it had any fur on it, but it was of a similar size to something furry. We were slightly freaked out but were laughing about it too, trying to get it to go away, but it loved the hell out of our table and our window. Finally, we got one of the other employees to pick it up. He had a hell of a time. Like I said, big enough to wrestle with your hand.
So we try to get our meals to go, and pack our own food. We also ask for the check. True to the pattern, our waitress disappears. Again. After fifteen minutes, we get fed up and go to the bar to pay. Only one of us left a tip, and let's just say it wasn't very big.
It was daylight when we entered the restaurant, and by the time we left, the sun had dipped below the horizon. The restaurant itself was barely half full the whole time, too.
