Wow, as a cashier/server, that response (the manager's response) was really inappropriate.

I've never had an experience that bad. The most disappointing restaurant experience I've ever had was when our waiter didn't card me when I ordered a sangria on the night of my 21st birthday. That was sad.

I would have thrown the card at their face. IT IS MY BIRTHDAY, TAKE NOTICE! Or, I AM NOT OLD LOOKING, CARD ME ASSHOLE!

It was less that he thought I was old (I think) and more than he just wasn't paying enough attention to doing his job. It wasn't the only mistake he made that night. He might have been new/not well-trained. But it was still disappointing, because your 21st birthday only happens once!!
