Re: Worse Restaruant Experiences?

My worst experience at a restaurant was about 14 years ago. I had two good friends in college, and one of them was friends with another student, a guy I didn't like much. This guy knew someone who was the manager of a restaurant. (I know it sounds patently lie, "a friend of a friend knew someone"... but this time it's true.)

I had a bad feeling about going to this place, but my friend and the guy wanted to go, and my other good college friend joined us. The place was empty when we arrived, and there were two employees visible: one behind the bar, one waiter talking to him and watching TV.

The sign said to wait to be seated. We waited for a couple minutes, then finally sat down on our own. After several more minutes, the waiter came over and took our drink orders and gave us menus, with a very silently resentful manner. The guy asked if his manager friend was in the restaurant, and was told "No." He asked if the waiter knew when said friend would be back, and earned another "No." The waiter left. Twenty minutes later, he brought my drink and took our orders.

My iced tea was in a tiny double-shot glass. The other three had just stuck with the normal water we came with.

Our food came out, cool to cold. If anything was done to it like spit or piss, I wasn't aware. I picked at it, that's for sure. No one bothered to refill our drinks, or ask how our food was. The waiter remained monosyllabic the few times he came to our table. The rest of the time, he was talking with the bartender.

We paid the bill and got out of there, only leaving a penny as a tip.

No one else came into the restaurant while we were there. I sincerely hope that place went out of business. I've never been so uncomfortable in a restaurant before, and so obviously unwelcome.

I hope your friend checked up on his manager friend. That sounds like the plot out of a horror movie. Are you sure those two guys were not criminals you interrupted in the middle of a murder?
