My best friend told me that when he told my cousin he was gay, by this point most of our friends had known for a few months that he was out of the closet, and my cousin reacted by exclaiming, "What?! You are?! I had no idea! Oh my gosh!" and it threw my best friend off because he said he always felt it was obvious. I never gave it much thought. I mean, I remember in high school people would ask me if my best friend was gay, and I always thought it was incredibly rude that people would just come up to me and ask me rather than give that question any thought so I'd always reply with, "Why don't you ask him yourself?" That always shut them up.
