I completely agree, OP.

I'm just happy about the B5 secrets.

I personally disagree, OP, because I don't think he crossed the line into creepy. He never pushed. He made clear he had feelings for her, but he never pushed her and never ignored her not expressing returning interest. He did nice things for her and made clear he was attracted to her, but it never went further than that. Creepy, to me, would be him asking her out after she said no. Which he didn't do, at least as far as I can recall.

DA

I was sold on Marcus after "A Late Delivery From Avalon" tbh. Before then, eh, not so much. Also "Day of the Dead," though whether or not that was Marcus, who knows.

He was one of my favorites, but I can see where someone would think he was creepy. He does sort of stalk Ivanova and have a habit of popping up around her when she's not expecting it.

I have no idea who this is, so I'm just going to pretend he's Havelock Vetinari as a young man,

I can see why you'd feel that. But it he never seemed that way to me, maybe mostly because I think if she'd ever told him "leave me alone unless its station/war business" he have done just that left her alone. Marcus was a nice guy (and I don't mean Nice Guy, I mean he was still a decent caring person even when she made it clear she wasn't going to date him)

Exactly. A Nice Guy would have forced the issue. But never even said anything because he didn't think she was interested (whether or not she was is up for debate). They were colleagues and therefore around each other, he was nice to her and did things for her because his feelings never went away, but I don't think he was ever creepy about it.

I'm right there with you, he made me uncomfortable.

LOL his face

It was his Gary Stu-ness that got to me. Accepted into order he shouldn't be a part of? Has unique and cool weapon? Inserted disproportionately into affairs? Main character mourns his death in lovingly framed angst?

I've been told I don't understand fantasy archetypes, but I couldn't help seeing him as a Poochie.

He would have been more of a Sue if he had been the main character and/or the one to defeat the Shadows and the Vorlon. Once you add Sheridan into the mix, though, he doesn't seem so suish. And given that Sinclair originally founded the rangers and was also their leader at the time Marcus joined, I don't think it is that much of a stretch for him to be able to join.

And he was the Ranger representative. So I don't think he was disproportionately added into affairs. He had less screen time than Delenn, Sheridan, G'Kar, Londo, and Susan, more screen than Frankin, and probably about equal with Garibaldi. And as for the mourning thing, Susan may or may not have had feelings for him and either way knew he was in love with her and cared for him as a friend.

Maybe I just hate him irrationally? lol It's been years since I watched it but I felt like he was ALWAYS on screen explaining something special about himself, although maybe he was an exposition vehicle and I don't remember accurately. And I know Ivanova's grief was complicated - iirc, he sacrificed himself for her and even if she hadn't cared about him at all, survivor's guilt could push someone to tears. But I seem to remember that shot of her crying going on, like, forever. GRIEVE FOR MARCUS. (For the record, I also read The Scarlet Letter and got the exact opposite message out of it than I should have. Apparently it's a tragedy?)

That's ok! He's sort of a neutral character for me. If other people around me love him, I can enjoy the love, but if no one else is around, I like him a little better than Byron and a little less than all the other characters. I don't find him creepy, but it's not unreasonable if you do.

I am glad for the mini-renaissance in B5 secrets, too.
