(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)OP here
(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 11:15 am (UTC)(link)But now, basically what happened was that in a recent interview with Kerrang! he mentioned that right from the start he only wanted to make 3 albums with My Chem. Which I personally find all kinds of ridiculous but that's Gerard for you so what you gonna do, right? Anyone, he mentioned that the only reason they even made Danger Days was for the money and because they were pressured to release another album by their record company. Let's be real, their 2/3 year hiatus after TBP made most fans think they were done for anyway.
Now I get what he's saying that sometimes you do shit for money whether you like it or not, but I honestly think he should have kept that bit to himself. A lot of people really liked that album, had missed them a lot and were really excited about a new tour, new music, new merch. New everything basically. And now he's basically throwing it out of the window and saying it's not really his. That it never really meant anything to him at all.
For years he's mentioned doing anything for the fans and now it's like he's taking it back. In interviews where My Chem is mentioned he's being very dismissive in my opinion, about the band, the members and the fans. Obviously I could be reading him wrong but yeah.
Combine that with the way they sort of fell of the map after DD and the weird way they released the Conventional Weapons tracks (in hindsight that was probably all for the money too) and the unsure way they announced MCR5 it just pisses me off. They made a lot of people excited only to disappear completely and it seems to be mostly his fault. I'm really disappointed to be honest.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)I totally agree, if it's not fun anymore you should just stop. But the way things are being handled right now just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If he only ever planned to make three albums he should have said so from the get-go. Instead of kind of disappearing and then dragging his feet into making a new album. And they'd already started promoting MCR5 /before/ they called it quits. Which psyched up a lot of people so that was kind of mean.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)I respect that he'd like to distance himself from the band, though. He's not even 40 yet and has a lot of living to do. You don't want to JUST be that guy from that band and nothing else, and if he didn't push hard to separate himself from his past accomplishments, he'd never succeed in moving on.
Thanks for coming back OP! I checked today hoping you would. :)

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)Also, tbh Danger Days was fun but like... eh to me. It seemed like the magic was about to be gone, so IMO it was a good way to end the saga. But I'm also a fan of harder and heavier music, so I've always preferred their first two albums.
