7. Might I suggest the Star Ocean and Tales of series? Also, while it technically still is kiiiind of turn based (actually, scratch that, it's not turn based at all), FF12 has a pretty neat battle system. And the other Manas are all action RPGs, so no need to worry there!

And while I fucking ADORE LUNAR and turn based combat in general, I can see how it's not for everyone, so.

I hate Lunar's battle system but I still love the games to pieces. IT TRANSCENDS THE BATTLE SYSTEM. XD

Aww, I actually kind of liked it. Especially the whole range concept, since I like to stick Shiro + Chiro crests on Ronfar and put him in the back, then watch him run ALL OVER THE BATTLEFIELD. Good times :')

I do think including range/placement on the battlefield was cool, but I wish I had more control over it, I guess? XD

But I also have the bad mental habit of comparing all other battle systems to the Grandia games and going "SEE, THIS IS WHY THE GRANDIA SYSTEM IS BETTER."

Tales suggestion thirded. Perfect choice for those who dislike turn-based battle systems (like me... although I will put up with them) but want to play RPGs with great plots and characters. Tales of the Abyss is my favorite. <3

Tales suggestion fourth'd. It's the perfect balance; fixed background but real-time battle. Kind of like a happy medium between Shadow Hearts 1/2 and Kingdom Hearts. 8D (Hearts ftw)
