#12 OP, damage control, GO!

(Anonymous) 2007-12-04 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Er...hi. So, it turns out that I really, really was being melodramatic when I posted that. But, enough of the comparison remains (namely, the whole perfectionist part) that I'm still wigging. And posting got it off my chest, so I'm not all mopey and complaining or whatever. Er, mostly. I mean, it got me to see my dad as...not such a great person, and I think that just by recognizing that fact, I'm cool.

Er, sorry for being Emo and whatnot. I'll go cut some cheese for my whine, too.

also, I'd totally like it more if my dad had the same fashion sense as von Karma, or could headbang like him, too. I mean, that'd make it TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!

Speaking as someone who loved their "omg perfectionist, it will all be my way or the highway, DO YOU HEAR ME?" father til the day he died, and still misses him a LOT...Sometimes you gotta vent! It's hard not being 'perfect' and they always forget to compliment the good stuff and always manage to find the cloud in every silver lining. But love them anyway, because they are probably wounded in some way, to have become like that, and they need the love.

On a funnier note, best example ever of my perfectionist dad: My father had a beautiful red rolling tool cart(yes a cart). Inside the tool cart were layers of foam, 1 for each drawer, with spaces inside cut out for each tool. He had done this himself, drawing around each tool and cutting the foam shape out and putting each tool in its "proper" place. So, 1 year I am visiting during May, and making something for Mom for Mother's day. I need a tool, and so I tell him I need a tool, and that I will get it myself if told where. (Now, keep in mind that at this point I am like 26 or 28 years old, do NOT live there, live on my own.) I go get said tool(either a hammer or screwdriver, I forget which), I use tool, and put it on the coffee table where I am doing project for Mom. I know in about 20-30 minutes, I will need tool again, as I get further into the craft project. So, about 20 minutes later, Dad has apparently gone out to garage and checked on the tool. *ZOMG TOOL IS MISSING* He comes back into house, says "Why haven't you put tool away? Don't you know where it goes? Don't lose my tools!" At this point I suppress the laughter, look calmly at him and say "I am not finished using it yet, I need it for several parts of this project. And it would be hard to miss where it goes since you have those little foam cutouts, now wouldn't it? What's with that anyway?" Of course, father just mutters something, says, "I like my tools neat and in proper order." and goes back to the garage. I told my mom the story over lunch up in the kitchen later and she laughed and laughed and said she never hangs nails for pictures or anything because she doesn't want to get 'yelled at' for not putting the tools away.

heh. My dad isn't the tool person, but he's got this thing where we are absolutely not allowed to touch his laptop or...iunno, something happens. It's wierd o_O

It doesn't help that he is really, really, good at maths, and I am really, really not. Or spelling, for that matter.

There's a few more issues I got with my dad, and I do love him a bunch, which makes this all really, really wierd, but the first thing I learned about the internet is (don't talk about the internet?) never treat the internet like your therapist.

Also, for those interested, I'm convinced my dad could NOT pull off a von Karma headbang, which makes him lose .5 win!points.
