Sad to say it but I agree.

When people blast TW fandom for focusing on Sterek when there's a canonly gay character in the show, I roll my eyes... "character" is a total stretch. Danny hardly was one.

I wish he had been more, dammit.

His role seemed to be relegated to mostly popping up just to take his shirt off and deliver a single line to appease fandom, so I was more bothered by folk shouting about the amaaaaazing queer representation in Teen Wolf. Like, really?

[personal profile] peablossom 2014-07-24 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why everyone is so pissed, I think. I'm out of the fandom now, but I believe the irritation is summed up as: there was this character that you utterly wasted and now you have replaced him with an identical character that you are probably going to waste, and that sucks.

No kidding. When the new token non-white, gay friend appeared I was like, wait a minute, where's Danny?

On the plus side, they did get rid of the other twin. Man, he bugged me.

[personal profile] peablossom 2014-07-24 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Did they? Best TW related news I've heard in seasons. Those twins were horrible.

I hated the twins too so I thought that I would be really happy when that happened but it just made me sad (I always get really bummed out when one twin dies on a tv show and the other lives). I don't think it would have bothered me if he had just killed both of them off.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-25 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
This, pretty much. They introduced new characters when they could have just developed the characters they already had--same complaints were made about killing off Boyd, if I remember correctly--and people are getting really annoyed. It's happened often enough that it's just highlighting the show's bad writing.

Why was he kicked off? What happened? In the last episode I was wondering where he was.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I like to think Danny was more than that. At the very least, he had a lot of potential. He reminds me of Craig from South Park in that neither of them are willing to put up with the main cast's shit. And I love that about Danny (and Craig for that matter.)

Then again, I stopped watching after 3x13 and have no desire to jump back in. Jeff Davis is the worst. 3A was awful because he introduced too many new characters without developing them & having them take away from the main cast. He could've spent some of that time/effort developing Danny, but whatever.

If he's gone, he's gone, but an explanation wouldn't hurt. They just have to say he graduated or something like that.

Given what little Kahuanui had to do, I'm glad he's out if only because he can possibly focus on other work. It's not like Davis was ever going to bother using the character anyway :U

New Danny is a cutie pie btw (and I think he's better at acting so far shhhhhh), but I'm also hoping he's not just going to be stuck as the 2-in-1 tokenisms character aka New Danny.

Don't watch it anymore. They totally wrecked it last season, it had been my bad-TV guilty pleasure but STILL. Watched the pilot and ...

- They put a girl who lived as a coyote half of her life in high school. Okay.
- De-aged one of they main character for er ... dunno why? I don't like him, don't care.
- Tokenised other main character of Japanese descent EVEN MORE.
- Made a previously possessed character totally fine.
- No one cared about death of their best friend or another one apparently buggering off.

Danny was a very minor character, but seemed like the most rational one (besides Sheriff and Melissa) despite being a TOKEN GAY OMG. Heard they replaced the other Scavo with three identical kids. Cool.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't speak for anyone else, but my problem is that this is a symptom of a larger problem Jeff Davis has with creating and writing characters. In his world, people only exist through relationships and not through their own personalities/wants/conflicts. Danny isn't the first character who didn't have a relationship anymore and was therefore written off. There was plenty Danny still could have done on the show, especially since it was shown that he knows what's going on in Beacon Hills. (And this is holdover bitterness after Boyd was killed off for the same lack-of-relationship reason.)

TL;DR Jeff Davis is a bad writer. This is just another instance.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-25 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
This x100.

(I actually stopped watching when Boyd died -- wasn't it like the previous episode they alluded to his dead sister and how he felt her death was his fault? And then all of a sudden, "Oh, he's dead because we didn't know what to do with him without Erica." You literally gave us a glimpse of what you could have done with Boyd's character arc one week ago!

But yes, excellent summary of Davis's relationship problem.)

(Anonymous) 2014-07-25 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
(Yeah, they did mention his sister. On top of that, if Jeff is really hung up on relationships, he could have further explored the dynamic between Boyd and his fail-Alpha Derek. There was a lot to do with Boyd, and there was a lot that could still be done with Danny.)

I liked him and I wanted to see more of him, and tbh I'm just sad that he's gone. I liked the 'I've always known about this shit' reveal last season and I was hoping that they'd go somewhere with that, but oop, guess not. :|

Exactly. As much as I still love this show, Jeff Davis is really bad about character follow-through. He loves to introduce new characters left and right when there is *so much* he could do with characters who've been there since S1 :/

Oh, THANK YOU, Anon!

It seems like all of fandom is in an uproar, and I just don't miss his character. I tried to submit that as an anon confession on Tumblr in one of those confessional blogs, but of course my post hasn't appeared yet (if at all).

It's not that I mind Danny. Whatever. But Keahu also looks *really* old. There's no way I can suspend that much disbelief to accept him as still being a high school student.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-25 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know who this is, but he's got a nice smile. Maybe they're mad because they won't be seeing his booty anymore. I think that's a valid reason.

lol What's the LGBTQ comment even about, Jeff Davis is gay

Well, there's yet another reason I'm unenthusiastic about this season. After so many interesting - and characters who had the potential to be interesting if the slightest effort was put into them - characters being written out and replaced with people who'll probably be written out the same way once I start giving a damn about them, I'm just so exhausted. I'll eventually muster up some effort for Scott, Lydia, Stiles, and Derek, but I hate this revolving door shit.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-25 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I think your secret answered its own question. People are pissed, I suppose, because he was essentially the token gay character who never amounted to much more than the token gay character despite being on the show for three seasons and then got booted when they found a better replacement token gay character. Stuff like that can be annoying to some viewers, particularly if they care about the dearth of queer characters, never mind well developed queer characters, on tv.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-25 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
The actor playing Danny was way too old to play a teenager. Yeah, most of the teen cast are actors in their twenties, but put him in a scene with the others, and it was really noticeable.

It's a shame, though, because he seems like a lovely guy.

Davis said at Comic Con that we haven't seen the last of Danny.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-25 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Whether that means they'll bring him back on to kill him off or if he'll be back for the longer fifth season, I don't know.
