Technically there's no canon explanation for why it was dropped. I think the writers just forgot about it or decided it was getting boring and they didn't want to bother.

It's been a while since I watched the first season, but I distinctly remember Nagisa calling her Gou and her starting to correct him but then giving up halfway through the sentence, looking comically defeated and saying to just forget it. That's the last time it ever comes up.

Out of universe, I agree that the writers probably just got bored with the joke.
