Re: SIMS 2 ULTIMATE COLLECTION IS AVAILABLE FOR FREE

I want to do this so bad, but I dont know how it works when I already have the base game and a few EPs from the discs on my hard drive. Do I have to uninstall them? Can I import my current hoods into my digital copy? And is that dangerous if, perhaps, there's a bug in my current hoods? (Sometimes dirty dishes are unselectable, the lawn looks like a series of dartboard, and character thumbnails just look all kinds of wrong either in skin tone or hair color.)

I'm honestly not sure about the answers to any of that, I'm sorry. :( Try maybe asking at the modthesims forums?

Sounds like you have a mod conflict.

But as for how it works: you can get it now and install it later, so long as you beat the deadline. I'm going to just uninstall my current Sims 2 game (after backing up my files) and see how it goes.

Yes, you do have to uninstall to play Origin's Ultimate Collection version, but you can backup your saves. You can follow the directions here: http://help.ea.com/mx/article/how-to-get-the-sims-2-ultimate-collection/

From past experiences, I would just make sure that before you move your saves that you make sure that you save your files when your Sims are in idle mode. What I mean is they're not currently doing an action, they're not queued for anything, they're not in a taxi, and they're defiantly not on a community lot. I've had saves screw up because of that.

And to completely remove your mods/CC, do a fresh install, run it once, then put it back. Just be aware that if you didn't have all the EP/SP that you might want to look into any conflicts. I think Delphi at Mod The Sims had some programs/tools for finding them, but I honestly haven't looked up anything for the Sims 2 in forever. It's probably best to put back things a little at a time, run it to see if there are any errors, then repeat. It's a pain, but then you won't run into many problems later.

Thanks so much! As far as I know, I don't have any mods, but if I did happen to add something and forgot (or someone else added something, and I was unaware) it would automatically be stripped away once I put the old neighborhoods in?

And somebody elsewhere had suggested I might have a corrupted neighborhood because of the weirdness that was going on. That's something I could test here and if its still in the new game, I can just uninstall and reinstall as long as I do it before July 31, right?

From what I remember any custom objects in game will turn into blue objects that need to be deleted manually. But I don't remember them breaking the game, so you'll be able to spot them while playing. Gameplay mods if removed could break a Sim if they were preforming an action using the mod and suddenly it's gone. That's why you should save with your Sims doing nothing JIC.

I don't know if your game is up-to-date with all patches, but it's possible those bugs might've been fixed in a patch. But you could have a corrupted neighborhood. It shouldn't break the game if you tried to load it in a fresh install, but if it doesn't load then it's broken. Might want to backup your individual sims too JIC. There are programs, like at MTS, that could help, but it might just be better in the long run to start a new save with your existing saved Sims.

Also, you just need to redeem the code by July 31st. You should be able to download the game whenever after as you'll technically own the game. Origin works like Steam.

You have been super helpful. Thanks, again!

OK I am honestly scared by the steps to uninstall. It doesn't help that the instructions are like "Oh btw, this registry step can royally screw your computer, so maybe get a professional, unless you're uber confident..."

Maybe this might be more helpful? http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Uninstall

Any other problems will probably be on their FAQ http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:FAQ_Index MTS has been a lifesaver for dealing with errors in The Sims 2 for me. :)
