"I watch animated shows because I can't tell actors apart" I get, but where does the part where the animated shows are exclusively for children come into the equation? Not judgin, I love me a good cartoon, just curious.

and by "exclusively for children" I mean "as a group, all of the shows are for children" before someone gets all ADULTS CAN WATCH THEM TOO

The reason I tend to go for the children's shows is that they tend to have brightly-colored characters who are highly visually distinctive; from what I can find, this is meant to be so that the child audience can tell them apart easily. The same idea works on older folks who have a hard time telling live-action actors apart.

The reason it's a secret is that, well, they're all aimed at people much younger than I am. In my social circle, watching pretty much only shows aimed at children tends to get you looked at oddly.

If faceblindness is your issue, though, you should be able to find at least something both animated and meant for adults that you can watch, right? The only difference between the ponies is pretty much their colors and hairstyles and almost all animated shows at least have that.

Western cartoons are largely marketed towards children as their main demographic. So, it's not a stretch for most people to think that cartoons are for kids. And I'd say that most of the writing is geared towards them as well. Sometimes there's a few more grown-up things thrown in for the parents. Which is the flip side. The stigma that if you're an adult and watch cartoons, but don't have any kids is somehow strange. It really applies to anything that's marketed to kids. Candy, toys, video games, etc. Bonus if you're an adult male. Then you're labeled as a pedophile.

Er what? How does that follow from anything I said? It's not that all cartoons are for kids or people might mistakenly think they are, it's that the cartoons in the secret are explicitly targeted at very young children, and the OP has implied that that's all they watch.

Again, not judging. I like some kiddy shows too.
