My sister's name is Mara. Most people call her Maur-uh, when it's actually pronounced more like Sarah. It drives her crazy, and that's fine, considering it's her name and she can pronounce it however she likes. People who don't respect that are stupid.

Yeah, I'd need to be corrected on that once (I know someone named Mara who uses the former pronounciation so I'd have used it first) but then I'd pronounce it the right way. It's her name, not mine.

Or they forget because their brains are used to processing certain spellings with certain pronunciations, and what you think is easy to reprogram for everyone is, in fact, not.

Sorry but that's a cop out. Make a goddamn effort. If I can learn a foreign language, you can self-correct the whatever-amount of times it would take to get it right.

Bullllshit. Names are hard. If you know someone well enough to memorise their name, memorise the pronunciation.
