See, I don't get why people have to be shitty about people who pay attention to a big exciting event that's all over TV. It's fun and harmless. I watch soccer every four years, during the World Cup, and I'm not hurting anyone by doing it.

Me, too! I have a good time watching the World Cup and getting excited about all the drama, and the rest of the time I don't pay attention. No guilt!

I don't get that either. I've played soccer all my life and I coach it/teach it professionally. I don't have the slightest problem explaining the game to newbies; in fact I was thrilled with all the recent attention during the World Cup and hope the popularity lasts in the US. My old roommate, a conventionally girly-girl, watched the US-Portugal game with me and we cheered ourselves hoarse (nd yes, I did have to explain the offsides rule to her. I survived ;) It's not a limited resource that we have to hoard and get snotty about. It's a fun thing; people are just having a good time and enjoying getting caught up in the excitement. Don't be such a creep, OP, you sound like a greasy neckbeard ranting about fake geek girls.
