And this is different than Haru insisting on being called Haru instead of Haruka how exactly?

Haru doesn't insist on being called Haru though. He's perfectly fine with Gou and Rei calling him 'Haruka-senpai'.

Except for that time in High Speed when he told Makoto that he would stop talking to him if he called him Haruka.

...Haru is a nickname of Haruka. And he never reacts either way to being called Haruka.

Kou is not a nickname of Gou. It's a different name entirely.
