it's stupid to complain about female fans only caring about football during the world cup because this happens with literally every sport. more women are online and in fandom so you may be seeing it more in this case, but how are these women any different from the fair-weather sports "fans" who appear only when their team is in the finals/nationals/etc? I can tell you there are just as many dumb guys out there who know the bare minimum about whatever sport they're suddenly a "huge fan" of, but no one ever bothers to give them an interrogation about players or rules, or worse, just figure they don't know anything about sports in the first place. because that guy who'd never even mentioned soccer before turning up to the local bar with his face painted and wearing a jersey with the price tag still on is clearly a long-time fan. this is not exclusive to women at all, and it's silly to pretend it is, or that they're the worst contingent.
