i don't read the books and i've stopped watching the show. so is lady stoneheart an actual reanimated corpse looking for revenge, or did she somehow survive her murder but too mentally fucked up to function normally?

Nope. She is a reanimated corpse totally focused on revenge, and in a really indiscriminate way where she can't really tell who she is targeting and wants to kill everyone.

She's an actual reanimated corpse. I don't know if you saw the third season the little arc with Arya meeting the Brotherhood without Banners and their leader, Beric Dondarrion. Who was also a reanimated corpse because Thoros the Red Priest brought him back like 6 or 7 times, and each time he kept coming back less and less "human." So the B w/o B found Catelyn's corpse (because Arya!Nymeria dragged her out of the river) and Beric was able to revive her, possibly by passing his lifeforce to her because he finally died after doing so.

I'm not 100% how much LSH's disconnect from everything except revenge is just that she's really fucking angry (with good reason, of course) or if it's somehow connected to the several-times-removed lifeforce of Beric.
