The nice thing about video games for me is that they're low-stakes. I can murder all the people I want, and it's cool because they don't exist. I can get really into this story, I can make big dramatic story choices, and none of it really matters because it's just a game.

But if my actions can actually ruin someone else's day or make them upset, or if someone else can just decide at random to ruin my day... that's not fun in the same way.

Yeah, that's a really good point. Computers don't get sad when you beat them.
