We know that a person put in the role of a "prison guard" will gradually come to occupy that role, as will a person put in the role of a "prisoner," even if they previously shared the role of "college student."

I disagree that that's a valid analogy given that the criticisms of the experiment point out valid flaws in the original study, not to mention the fact that popular culture tends to extenuate the negative.
