(Anonymous) 2014-07-26 11:14 am (UTC)(link)Lots of people read fic in fandoms they're completely unfamiliar with, though, especially on AO3 where it's super-easy to find new fic using the freeform tags. Recs lists/posts encourage the same thing; I've tried probably dozens of fics in unknown-to-me fandoms just because the recommendations sounded so intriguing.
It's true that you'd have to be pretty oblivious not to know that Sam/Dean is incestuous. But 1) some people are pretty oblivious, and 2) most incest pairings aren't anywhere near as widely-known as that one.
