I only play them once as well but mostly because once I experience a game once, I am over it. Except for Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I'll play that any day of the week.

Interesting, that's the exact opposite of what I do. I go out of my way to avoid discovering plot points and 'best routes' for games that are years and years old. I feel like the way you choose to play would take all of the suspense out of things, but to each their own!

I usually only play a game once as well, but I don't do a 'definitive' run and go spoil myself on the choices as I'm playing it. I make my choices as I play and live with them. I may go look up what the results of other choices could have been, but that's as far as I'll go with that.

I prefer single person games because I can't get the grip of multi-tasking with multiple options (must not be a team player but am good at that in real life). I did have to rely on walkthroughs and hints online to get through Riven and Machinerium. But when Midnight Mansion was active I didn't do that and enjoyed playing it many times, even after I found all the secrets. Marathon was probably the only first player shoot em up game I could play endlessly.

Haven't played games in ages though, computer is low on memory and the games can't be run on newer systems. Such is technology I guess.

I very, very rarely play a game through more than once. Part of my enjoyment comes from experiencing the story/characters the first time through so once I know everything that happens I find it very hard to go through it all again(yet oddly I don't have this problem with movies, but I suppose I'm not putting any active effort into watching a film, whereas a game I could be spending 10+ hours of my time to complete it).

There are exceptions ofc, but as a general rule for me once I've played a game I'm done with it.

Interesting.

I can tell you that your play style isn't as unusual as you think: my cousin does something very similar. He plays to unlock every single achievement associated with a game, and then never plays it again. The difference is that this can sometimes take multiple playthroughs, but the motivation is very similar. He wants to have a "definitive" experience, and after he's had it, there's no longer any reason for him to play the game.

For me, however, games are like books. If I really enjoy a game, I'll play it over and over -- just as if I really like a book, I'll read it over and over (although there may be years between readings/playings).

Interesting, but I'm not sure why it's a secret? Nobody's going to pour haterade on you for doing that, even if it is unusual (which I'm not sure it is).

I only play through games once if they're mediocre. I only play them through a second time if I really, really enjoyed them, and that's when I tend to do my meticulous GET ALL THE THINGS run-through.

Everyone's different. I love replaying games, but don't do it as much as I'd like. (If it's a series then I'll try to replay the others before a new release, but sometimes it doesn't happen.)

But if the game is good I get enjoyment out of playing it and revisiting the characters and story; it doesn't matter if I know what's coming or have 'completed' everything.

I DO wish I could be a bit more definitive with some of my playthroughs (maybe not as much as you, but I always feel bad when I don't collect all artifacts, unlock all costumes, that kind of thing), but I don't have the patience.

I roleplay my way through games. For me it's not about finishing the quests, it's about experiencing the game in as many different ways as I can. Do you only read books once too? My friend is like that, she can't enjoy a book if she knows how it's going to end.

I finished Mass Effect for the first time not too long ago, and I completely MEANT to do another playthrough, but just as you say: the first time was the definitive story for me, I don't want to mess with my ideas of what the story is by introducing variations to the characters and plot.

For non-RPG games I play once, and I usually plan it a lot. Sometimes I just let it happen. But for RPGs, no way. If I like the game I'll play it many times with different characters, since each personality results in a different game.

I don't really find this unusual. For the majority of games I do this too. Mainly because there are so many games I want to play that I don't have a lot of time to do it, so replaying a game I've already played doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather just play another new game.

I spent countless hours of my childhood dicking around in Super Mario 64, and plan to spend countless more dicking around in Katamari Damacy, but I understand, because I am this way with movies. I already watched it and now it's done, what would be the point of seeing it again? (Unless it's The Avengers. I can rewatch that movie forever.)
