Re: Fandom Theories You Hate?

I really hate the idea that Rhaegar and Lyanna had this totally epic/true love tragic romance. It is just so ridiculous. While I'm willing to believe that Lyanna went willingly and R+L=J, I don't think it was the greatest love story ever told that some people in the fandom make it out to be.

Yes, this. Even if Jon is their kid they still weren't an epic romance. I do actually think she went willingly, but that is more likely because Robert was a dick and Rhaegar was this romantic, attractive mystery. But he was really almost as bad as Robert considering how he treated his wife, and they aren't an epic love story at all.

Exactly, if anything it was more of a crush on Lyanna's side. As for Rhaegar, I don't think he loved her. I think he was more in love/obsessed with the idea that she could give him the child from the propecy.

Also, I kinda hate the idea that because Elia was Dornish, she was totally okay with her husband running off with Lyanna and starting that whole mess. Poor Elia. Rhaegar was such a twit.

And the fandom's penchant for romanticizing and putting Rhaegar on a pedestal.

Not to mention that it would be totally alien to the universe of the story for it to have been the greatest love story ever told. This is not a world where people GET nice things. Now, the idea that it COULD have been a great epic romance, but they didn't get the chance, instead just having a few stolen moments and a lot of unfulfillment and wondering what might have been... that sounds about right.

I'd imagine that by Westeros standards its pretty much as close to a tragic romance that one gets though (though this really isn't saying much).
