It's not hate, it's fatigue. And in the case of writers whose work gets bypassed because there's no pairing involved, frustration. I write both and it pains me to see the intricately crafted plot Fic languish when the relationship fluff I dash off in an hour gets hits and kudos.

The problem is that in many fandoms, there are just so many shipping fics that they overwhelm everything else. And often not tagged for ease of filtering either. Anyone going looking for that properly plotted and crafted fic is, in all probability, going to have to wade through pages of shipping fics before they find it. Most potential readers will give up before they find it. Ship-ficcers, use tags properly. Especially on sites where you can tag for multiple genres, but only filter out one. The amount of shipping fics tagged with both romance and comfort tags, so you just cannot avoid it. Oy!

Its writer fatigue caused by search-fatigue on behalf of the potential readership.

So...you're annoyed that you don't write what you know people are looking for, and then complain when they don't read your stuff? Seems unproductive.

Exactly! OP needs to get over it.

What you said about fatigue x 100.

I shipped several ships fiercely when I joined fandom, so it's not like I can throw stones in this particular glass house. But... I got bored with that. I started longing for stories about characters beyond the juggernaut pairings, and even *gasp* for stories that didn't involve romantic pairings at all, but looked at the myriads of other human relationships.

Sadly, these are unbelievably rare in the fandoms closest to my heart, so I've pretty much given up hoping for them. There's still plenty of pairing-centric fanfiction, and some of it's beautifully written, but it just doesn't feed that hunger. (Not to mention it's impossible to talk about this without risking hurting other fans' feelings.)
